Sun Salutations, or Surya (sun) Namaskar (to bow/adore) is a dynamic asana sequence that is usually practiced at the beginning of a hatha yoga class. They are also seen as the backbone of vinyasa yoga.
For thousands of years, many have regarded the sun as both the physical and spiritual heart of the world. Sun salutations are, traditionally, a means of honouring the sun and our own internal light, in addition to having many physical benefits.
This workshop will provide you with a greater understanding of the Sun Salutations and a deeper awareness of both the physical and spiritual effects and benefits of the practice.
Following a short asana practice, we will break down and explore each posture and transition that makes up the classical Sun Salutation. This will help us to pay great attention to our bodies, our breath and our attention during this continuous, flowing sequence.
We will end by exploring surya namaskar mantra to experience the more meditative effects of the sequence.
Cost: £20. All welcome, whether you have little experience of Sun Salutations or wish to explore and deepen your practice. Modifications will be given where appropriate.
